Hi all,

I successfully integrated NF with an existing MVC4 website (thanks to the customdb auth provider https://nearforums.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Authentication%20providers&referringTitle=Documentation)

Is there a way to implement a single sign on between the 2 sites? They are both on a dev stage running on the same domain.

lol, found it on the screen that appeared after the successful install. Didn't notice at the top where it had the facebook, twitter, and login options. I just noticed the link in the middle of the page that said to click on it for more help. Would recommend to put just above that a statement to say "Click on the Login above to setup your administration account."

I'm not a programmer so need a pretty basic explanation. Nearforums says it installed properly. I obtained an autho code from facebook. Nearforums is installed in the following directory...

/Home/mywebsite.com/wwwroot/Nearforums

I ftp into the site and do not know where the html page is that I need to link to from my website to open up nearforums. I wasn't able to find this information in the documentation. Can someone explain what is the path to the default page for nearforums?

The Facebook application link needs to be updated as to the instructions. I was able to locate the place on Facebook to do it though..

Hi Jorge,

Does it allow for quotes & replies? I didn't notice that within the sample one. Also, does the sample not have any catagories set up?

Hi,
Here you have some info on how to set up a Facebook application, Facebook (OAuth) requires you to create an "application" per each site you want to allow login with.

About how Nearforums looks like, here you have the sample site: http://sample.nearforums.com/. You can have multiple categories and multiple forums below each category. You can not nest categories inside categories.

Hi,

My website control panel as the option of installing various apps and I'm attempting to install nearforums to use on my website for a forum (hopefully it's a decent one). I just clicked the install button in the Control Panel and it brings up a page to complete. I'm stuck where it asks to input a Facebook Application Id. Is there a FAQ for how to get one of these? I googled this and only found out about how to register as a developer with facebook but I'm assuming there must be one already available as I'm not a developer?

On create a new thread page I am trying to implement image upload functionality with the help of swf uploadify. Here is the script for uploading image:

This is calling imageupload action method in topic controller, where I am setting session variables which will hold uploaded image name/path which I can use in Add action method of topic controller used for creating a new thread.

Here is how I am setting session variables:

Hi Jorge..
Rest of data is getting stored as I can see base.Session.CaptchaHash value and authentication
Data is also getting stored as I am not getting logged out.
But different is that I am setting my session variables by using $.post jquery call..when debugged jsonresult method..value is set properly..but on button click, when add action method of topics controller is called then these variables which are set by me in ajax request gets null value.
Not able to understand the cause..please guide.

Perfect!!! I can query the db directly, sorry I didn't think about that! I can using some logic and if not logged in just use the RSS feed and if logged in query the db directly to get that info. Thanks so much, sorry for long winded question, I just have a hard time putting my thoughts into words that make sense. lol

Dear Friends,

I am having an issue while setting session variables in nearforums. I am trying to set session variable values through Ajax call using JQuery as follows. But when I try to access then in some action method, their values becomes null.

Here's how I am setting them through ajax call in a Action method in TopicsController:

base.Session.SessionVariale = "Hello world";
or
HttpContext.Session["SessionVariale"] = "Hello world";

And here's how I am trying to access them in another action method in the same controller (TopicsController):

string xyz = base.Session.SessionVariale;
or
string xyz = HttpContext.Session["SessionVariale"]

but both of them gives null value. Somewhere they are getting set to null. Can you please let me know some solution for this.

Hi Jeff,
As the rss is a public "page", it retrieves the same topics as an anonymous user would see when visiting the homepage. To get the data shown in rss is retrieved using SPTopicsGetLatest stored procedure passing null as current role and it does not allow authentication.

Probably you have a good reason to hide some topics for anonymous user and displaying them on your main website... If not, you could just set the read access to "Everyone" and it would work :)
If this is not possible, you could directly query the nearforums db, using the SPTopicsGetLatest proc (I don't know about your server layout)

First I love the forums!! Appreciate all the hard work!

My question:
I have my site set up like so.
mainWebSite.com (MVC3)
forums.mainWebSite.com (nearforums)

I have single sign on work wonderfully! Users can log into the main site and it auto logs them into the forums when they click the link to visit the forums.

Finally the question, I want to put a feed on the mainWebSite.com that has the latest posts. I am currently doing this by reading the built in feed from nearforums (forums.mainWebSite.com/rss) and displaying the results on the page on the mainWebSite.com. The problem is even if I am logged in when the mainWebSite.com reads the RSS feed it doesn't return the latest topics from forums that require you to be logged in.

I apologize if this doesn't make sense, but what it comes down to is the RSS return doesn't to use the single sign on information. If I log on to the main site and then click the forum link I am automatically logged into the forums and it works great! But if I log on the main site and then try to read the rss feed from the code in the main site it doesn't seem to recognize that I am logged in.

i tried every variation of this and it didnt work. should have looked what you used. @Html.Pager(search, new { q = ViewBag.q }, S(" "), S(" ")) made it work perfectly in the view
